Coco coir... stinks

Does coir smell bad... kind of sour... once hydrated, cased and covered?

It does smell kind of weird, but it cases great. 230 fresh grams from 3 pints of WBS (in one flush). It's worth the smell

Considering everything you hear about odor as a warning sign for contams, it is funny I haven't heard more about the odor of coir.

Thanks.

I've never noticed anything but an earthy smell. Are you sterilizing or pasteurizing the coir?

Edit:: As long as its not contaming, then I guess it don't really matter.

No visible contams... it was steralized and mixed with some h2o2...

It does smell earthy when it is uncovered... but when covered to incubate and colonize, it smells more sour... or so I have heard.

All casings have the same odor... and so does the remaining coco coir.

Never heard of mixing peroxide into the casing. I like the idea. How much do you mix in?

After a dunk the lorax always thought his smelled a little "chemy", however he assumed thats it was from the hydrogen peroxide he puts in his dunking water.

That is what I fear... bacteria. But I have heard a few people say coir has an odd odor... and the tupperware may trap the odor inside. It would be weird if a whole batch of coir had a bacterial infection... wouldn't it? Coir has very little nutritional value. The myc was fine before it was cased.

After sterilization... you can mist the coir with a 1/10 3% h2o2 solution. My friend mists each layer.

Coco Coir does tend to smell strage.. that's probably because its made from coconut fibers...and its normal
It works GREAT though!

Yeah... it isn't the best smell... but it isn't as bad as most contams... funny I hadn't heard of it before. The smell came sooo quickly.

I think coir is in the clear... but still... coir stinks.
