ONce you get the right prep time for cracked corn it is freakin amazingly fast colonizing spawn. I wasted 20 lbs getting to that point tho...good thing the 40# bags are only 7 bucks!

Yeah, AFOAF went from BRF cakes to cracked corn... Tried it three times and failed miserably.....

He really wanted to get some fruits so now he's back to BRF, and will do WBS next since there's more documentation and help for that tek.

well, if afoaf needs info, hit me up...it takes a bit, but the results are worth it for a bulk spawn, definitly. As a standalone it takes quite a bit of vermiculite to keep it moisturized, but works acceptably well for that too.

If ya don't rinse it enough you lose the batch, at least with cracked. Too sweet for the fungus to get growin.

I've yet to have a jar that doesn't have a clump...as far as i've seen, as long as there is free movement among the majority of the substrate, it don't really matter....they're all grown into when cased. Altho i did almost give myself a hernia trying to get it to not be a clump.

not of anything easy.....found a P.Silvatica specimen last fall and i've been trying to get the damned thing to fruit for the last 7 months. It's not being friendly. At all.
But yeah, i know a leetle bit.
My guess on the clumpage is probably the round kernels...don't stick, and probably put up with pressure w/o popping more easily....cracked corn has a very very nasty tendency to fuse. You can get past it with vermiculite in the colonization jar, but fuck it, it works either way.
