This may work, but you may want to consider the following:

#1 you may need to moisten the top verm layer when you take the lid off

#2 Paint the jar black

#3 All Foaf's MMGG/PF style cakes shrunk conisderably during colinization. This may be a problem...

The only possible problem I see with this is, you don't have much surface area for fruting, compared to how much substrate you have.

Hey, give it a shot, experimenting is always a good idea :smile:

Yea, good point/s. But the idea for painting the jars black is excellent. The only reason this tek probably ever would be useful, if is someone was trying to grow discretely, and didn't want to set up the terrarium, and or didn't want to do all the transporting and crumbling and setting up of regular casing. I may try this out someday, but I guess it's not really a priority.

This would be great for the people tryin to grow in a college dorm room or similar place. I know it was a pain in the ass trying to setup a decent terarium in school.

don't paint the jars- then you can't monitor colonization next time you use them! Maybe just wrap in tinfoil.
