How can I use an AVI as my signature?

Hey guys!
Today I downloaded Adobe After Effects and spent pretty much all day editing/animating my signature. I finished it and realised there is no way to save/export it as a .GIF
I exported it as a .AVI and tried to use an online AVI to GIF converter but the file was too large (300mb+), so I downloaded a few different freeware/shareware video to GIF converters and the only ones that work lose like 80% of the quality which is a big deal for me...
Is there an easy way to make my video file a GIF or is there any other file formats (animated) that I could use?
Thanks!
-Edit-
I managed to save each frame as an image file (899 images all up) but whenever I import them into a gif making program it changes the animation speed and the resulting gif is low quality and pixely.

Now why wont it work as my sig
Nevermind - had to change a setting under my account.
It still looks blurry/low quality (unless its just my eyes from being in front of the computer for so long lol)
I give up for now, thanks anyway!

I use gifcam to make gifs from videos.
http://blog.bahraniapps.com/gifcam/
899 frames is a fuckload for a sig tho. I don't know if there is a bandwith limit for sig images but that will definitely be taxing on people's computer.

Go to Photoshop, and go to
File -> Import -> Video Frames to Layers
Check the box that says Make Frame Animation.
You can choose some options here depending on how many frames you want, what range in the video.
Once done, File -> Save for Web and choose one of the gif options.
I don't know if this works with avi files, might have to convert it to MP4 first. I may be wrong about that though.

Not right now its just a static jpg until I get this GIF sorted. This is what its supposed to be: http://i.imgur.com/TnyOSKP.gif
When I use the imgur link as my sig not everyone can see it (most people have offsite content blocked) so I'm trying to upload it to the shroomery to use it, however the gif is like 50mb. The smallest I can get it down to is 7mb without losing too much quality, which is still well above the 512kb upload limit

Thanks dude
Does anyone know if its even possible to get that gif down to 512kb or less? Or is there any chance of an admin giving me a 'one off' 50mb upload?

firstly the image isn't square so it will look a bit od but it shouldn't be hard to scale down in ps to get it smaller in mb

For anyone interested I ended up exporting from after effects as an AVI then used Virtualdub to convert to GIF. The file size went from roughly 50mb to 2mb with virtually no quality loss.

You should get rid of the drop shadow.
It really bothers me that the drop shadow doesn't move when the letters do. Just my inner perfectionist I guess.
Other than that, it's pretty sick man!

It's not a drop shadow, the avi doesn't have it but the gif does so I'm assuming it's due to the conversion. It annoys me too but I cant get rid of it

glad you sorted it but i actually played arround in ps and made a cropped gif but even the "smaller" full colour one was 17mb and a vastly smaller one with minimal colours was still too big for an avatar though i could upload that one here

Honestly try virtualdub (freeware), without it I couldn't get my gif under like 20mb. It puts out the lowest file size out of any other program while maintaining quality.
It works by only recording changes from the initial image (or something like that) opposed to recording a full image each frame.
