yellow fuzzy mycellium?
    #2295507 - 02/02/04 10:41 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

i have a casing and after first flush decided to do a little expermation since i didn't mind losing it and put in in a bucket of water with plexiglass lid and just let the thing float and fruit it while it's floating in the water guessing it would contaminate, i figured the casing having more water would equal bigger fruits and i was right, it has huge pins on it right now but at the base of the stems it has the typical fuzzy myc. but it has a kinda light yellowish tint to it, never seen anything like it before, everything looks really healthy and no bad smell, think it contaminated?

Hard to tell without a pic you know....
Anyway, i believe you don't have many probabilities to get a contaminated free culture after those unsterile procedures. Maybe you're lucky but most probably the captain must abandon ship at the end.

yeah i just wanted to see what would happen, nothing is spreading and the color is getting lighter not darker so i dunno really, i think they're okay. i think i have an idea what it might be now cuz i dumped the water this morning and the water had a yellow/brown color to it, you think it's possible the mycellium picked up the yellow color from the discolored water? i've heard about food coloring changing color of myc before and it makes sense i really think that's what is going on. no green so far which surprised me, i thought i would see it a day or two after it had been floatin in the water.
