Stupid Question
    #2294972 - 02/02/04 08:02 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Hello,

I have a rather stupid question, but I am hoping someone will help a sister out  Anyway, I am borrowing a pressure cooker from a friend for the evening on order to sterilize a batch of PF jars, but I will not have time to innoculate until tomorrow evening. Will it be alright if I allow the jars to sit 24 hours after sterilization without being innoculated???

yeah the jars will be fine. You usually should wait for atleast six hours so the heat doesnt kill the spores.

yes, you want to wait about 24hrs anyway, so the substrate isnt too hot, and kills the spores. ive heard people encouraging newbies to let their substrates sit, so as to see if any contaminants pop up, so you dont waste spores. i suggest not waiting > 24 hrs, because the sooner you innoculate the better chance you have that what u want to grow will colonize(gourmet mushies), instead of what u dont want to colonize(contams)

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
