When to mist a casing?
    #2294456 - 02/02/04 04:51 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

AFOAF Ask:

When's it time to mist? Daily? Weekly?

What about when your terranium is at 90-95% RH?

Also, the FAQ says misting should not be done on top of mushies, but in between.... Looking at some of the casings in the Grow Log and Pics forum, seems that would be hard to achieve.

Should a level of hydrogen peroxide be added to your mister bottle to prevent contams?

Other than light mistings, any substantial waterings before the button stage can result in damaged pins. But once the mushrooms have reached button size, it is time to begin building the casing moisture back up to the peak reached at pre-pinning. The aim is to reach capacity just prior to the main harvest.
The goal is to keep the surface of the casing open and porous throughout the cropping cycle. After the first flush is harvested the casing should be kept moist with light mistings until the next flush reaches the button stage.

By watering 2-4 times/day rather than just once, the casing can slowly absorb the water without damage to the surface.
