fucking messy ass wild bird seed lol...shit gets fucking everywhere~! i'm sure mine fell from a fucking cupboard or something stupid while i was spawning

Also interesting enough last time I was buying mice I noticed that there were no exo terra bricks left on the shelf and the eco bricks were untouched. I asked the sales person and she told me that people had been complaining about the eco earth molding in the hide boxes. She told me that they were no longer going to be carrying it soon.

None of those things you mentioned would result in contamination lol, maybe bugs?.
I actually think "grain dust" is far riskier than just 1 sunflower seed you may find in your coir. And if you find seeds in your coir there's probably grain dust too.

What did you find in bovine poo other than poo and partially digested grasses?

This, people see white spawn jars and they automatically think they got clean spawn.

Well I mean, I'm not exactly 100% sure there's not some sneaky ninja contam hiding in my spawn, but I'm also not a complete noob and I know what mycelium looks like :/ All I see is beautifully white rhizomorphic mycelium in my jars. They look fucking picture perfect.
I suppose i'll try putting something on agar so I can visually inspect what I got going on and be 100% sure of a clean culture.
but first I wanna try switching coir brands and seeing if that makes a difference. Where are you guys getting the Exoterra? I can't find it on amazon. Is there some store or website I should be going to? Is the "plantation soil" stuff just straight coir?

What would be the best thing to use for substrate in lieu of coir? Maybe some kind of Hpoo+Verm+straw mixture? I'd like to try pasteurizing something like that to see if it makes a difference.

Found my first few sprouts in a tub today then I read this thread lol. I'm always finding sticks, rocks and weird ass leaves in my coir. I honestly thought they were all the same. I'll be looking into a different brand. Been using Eco for a while though.

I honestly don't even know how the hell zoo med can justify the shit they call pet grade coir. I would never use that as bedding for any reptile.

I use eco earth and the few times I've had pervasive contamination in a culture it appeared on coir or straw or in-vitro bottles so it was the culture.
ignore the heating pad that's there to be funny. but that spawn looks clean but regardless of substrate(bottles, coir bulk, straw bulk) produced mushrooms that looked like this
fucking gross shit right. spawn looks clean. colonization times are fine, recovers from a shake just fine.
it's in the culture itself whatever it is. start from scratch in this case

Yeah I never thought about using it for a reptile. I have my classic aspen bedding for my sweetie.

That looks like holy hell lol. It's interesting that it was in the culture itself. Wtf? Sorry about your water dragon. I know that was forever ago but that still sucks.
