Sporulation?
    #2294061 - 02/02/04 01:38 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Do different strains of cubs drop their spores at different times. reason I ask is that afoaf has some pesas that seam 2 drop their spores within 24 hours of the veil tearing. is that normal? I have looked at pics of all of these other peoples shrooms that drop there spores when the caps are fully open and it seems like the pesas drop them very early. Also will the caps drop spores only once, or will they drop spores, produce some more, and then drop them again, or is it a one time deal. Ive heard that if they drop spores on a casing it damages the casing so he wants to harvest them b 4 they drop them so as not to harm the casing. This is his first grow and he will be posting some pics in the grow log section. thanks for any input.

That's not early, but all strains spore differently.

spores will drop into the veil before it tears, and the cap will drop them pretty much constantly until the fruitbody dies... the rate of drop can be very rapid, resulting in a very dark sporeprint, or very slowly, resulting in an invisible print... factors that influence this are genetic peculiarities of the particular variety, temperature, humidity, substrate moisture, senescence, overall health of the fruitbody, and a host of environmental factors...

There is no one way for spores to behave.

Spores dropped on a casing may either germinate or contaminate, as there are molds that attack spores... this can cause lots of problems....
