Problems with tub in tub (grr frustrated)
    #2294006 - 02/02/04 01:14 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

So I have started running into some of my first real problems.  I have lost several casings to what I believe may be caused by excess humidity in my tub in tub incubator.  Of course, this excess humidity is NOT intended and in fact I need a way to remedy it.

I use a large Pro-Tote 35 gallon outer tub and somewhere around a 25 gallon tub inside.  I heat the water inside with a 100W aquarium heater and have it set to 86 degrees.  The inside of my incubator (inner tub) reaches a reasonable 81-83 degrees but is CONSTANTLY at 99% RH.  I cut a 12" x 6" hole in the lid of the outer tub and covered it with a towel to allow for humidity to escape but it didn't seem to help.

Now I have drilled 6 holes along the top edge of the outer tub (1.5 inches diameter) and 8 holes along the top edge of the inner tub (.75 inches diameter).  I still have an RH of 99%!!!  Has anyone ever had this problem??  Anyone know of a way I might fix this problem?  Grrr, I don't want to start another case until I have perfect (or near to) incubating conditions and this problems stands in my way :frown:  Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

use two tubs the same size, theres enougth room for water and a heater still, but only one lid, so you dont get the moisture leeching from one to the other.

Get your self 2 tubs that are the same size. One will slip nicely into the other. Walmart has them for 5 bucks. You can tell how they stack at the store. The top tub wont get humid at all. On the ones i have the top tub stops about 4 inchs from going all the way in. makes a perfect hot water bottle.

Yea what ganja said

And humidity and condensation doesn't build up in the top tub? Even though there is probably a temperture difference between the inside of the tub and the outside environment?

No, as the lid seals it. If you leave it open, a little does, but
that also affects the temp, you want to set the temp to when it has
the lid on, as any gaps, or removing the lid, will effect the temp.
