Never been able to get rye grains to pin.
    #2293425 - 02/02/04 07:35 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hi all, I have never had any luck getting rye grains to pin and produce fruting bodies, have tryed many times. Rice cake with verm' are no problem. Rye seems so much more convenent if it would work. I have crumbled and cased with verm' or left uncased with no luck always using perlite humidification and warmth. any suggestions.

Should work ok. Sure you didn't have any contams maybe even a hidden one. Maybe try another grain like corn or millit.

I bought a lot of organic rye which is a pain. no contams. I notice in one of the tec mentions difficulty in flowering on rye, its the one that shows how to harvest the mycelium instead of fowering. Wanted to get all the info I could before trying again.

That's an odd one; are you sure it's not down to other environmental factors, like lack of light, insufficient c02 buildup during colonisation... have you tried cold shocking? That might do the trick. Mayby you're not giveing the casing enough time to colonise, or perhaps too long, and you're getting overlay? I know this is all pretty simple stuff, but it's a wierd one, i've never had trouble with rye. Hmmmmm

Don't forget the environmental changes which must occur to signal the mycelium to fruit:

Primordia Formation:
Relative Humidity: 95-100 %
Air Temperature: 74-78 F.
Duration: 6-10 days.
Co2: less than 5000 ppm.
Fresh Air Exchange: 1-3 per hour.
Light: Diffuse natural of exposure to 12-16 hours/day of grow-lux type fluorescent light high in blue spectra at the 480 nanometer wavelength.

Cropping:
Relative Humidity: 85-92 %.
Air Temperature: 74-78 F.
C02: less than 5000 ppm.
Light: Indirect natural or same as above.

thats from TMC.
i hpoe it helped some..peace
