It was nothing special. Not bad musicianship, but nothing special. Another dime a dozen post Jerry sound.

What do you think of the DSO shows over the past few years?
Another post Jerry sound(s) indeed, but I fell in love with them all over again during their performance down here on the 12th. May have been the combination of nostalgia and LSD + the show being next to my high school campus.

I've never seen them before, but I've listened. They're a solid tribute band. My to to tribute band is Splintered Sunlight. They're real good, and their shows are cheap....many free shows as well, play locally.

Are you fucking kidding me? You won't give their actual shows a listen but you'll judge them based off of 2 songs they played on the Tonight Show?
Why the fuck do you even still post in every Dead thread when you have nothing but shit to say these days?

That was a very strange rendition of Brown Eyed Women
Did they only air Shakedown in the episode? I didn't watch the actual episode but I know Brown Eyed Women was at least played it in the studio and it was quite nice. There was a live stream of it before the episode aired, maybe they had a last minute change of heart? Or were both in the episode?

I know right? Kids just don't want to admit that a certain ship sailed years ago. They're too desparate to be a part of it.

Yea, Shakedown Street was played on the TV show.
Just watched Brown Eyed Women:
http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/video/dead-companybrown-eyed-women/2988328
Brown Eyed Women to me is too folky for Mayer to pull it off IMO. Shakedown street on the other hand I thought was pretty good.

Early 30s, and I never saw Jerry either. Was a couple years too young to get what the grateful dead were when he passed, just that hundreds of thousands of people showed up when they were in town & it was this big circus. I have listened to countless hours of shows from the 60s on, countless Jerry side projects, and saw every reunion lineup from 02-09. Listened to Furthur, listened to FTW, listened to a couple Dead & co songs. The only reunion lineup that had any sort of special spark was FTW, and of course that wasn't the real either. None of the other lineups had or have that spark, and none of them go anywhere different or groundbreaking. It's stagnant, bland. FTW didn't exactly break new ground either for that matter. The music lives on, and always will....but the reunion lineups don't pass muster, period. I'd much rather catch a tribute band. Many do justice to the music, and there are no OG members, so expectations aren't as high. Whereas seeing the OGs there are expectations that aren't met. I'll stick to recordings, and bands that are still current. Which is where this thing started long ago has moved on to. So much quality music out now, so many fun fanbases. That's where it's at. Not hanging on to a ghost. Comes a time when folks are going to have to accept that things have changed, times are different & it's past time to move forward. "Go with the flow" & "nothing lasts" - two concepts from the old days that folks have forgotten in this day & age.

I just got into the grateful dead a couple years ago. The FTW shows and the dark star orchestra shows I've caught have been amazing. Some of the best days/nights I've ever had! Really took me to a special place where I saw just what a concert could be.
I honestly felt like I was in the 60s/70s/80s all at different points throughout my trips at those shows.
Sorry the dead have lost their magic to you dark-star. To a ton of us 'kids' too young to know the ship has sailed long ago, we are all still at the dock having a kickass party not giving a fuck!

I have only seen DSO a handful of times, but the most memorable was at a small venue in Atlanta called the Variety Playhouse, my ex and I went up to the stage when the place was clearing out and Donna Jean saw us, she ran over and handed us the setlist from that night, really cool memory.
DSO is amazing though.

I love fake Donna. Fake Bobby is pretty awesome as well.. If only he wore Bobby shorts during their 80's setlist shows... Bobby shorts make me swoon.

I didn't read that as they have lost their magic at all, just that some tribute bands are currently closer to peak Dead than the reunions. I'm partial to The Schwag myself.
