computer problems
    #2291747 - 02/01/04 12:56 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

well its not a horrible problem, but every time I shut off my computer and turn it back on, I have about 100 porn sites listed in my favorites and it changes my homepage. I have tried norton av, ad aware, spybot, bullet proof software, those websites that detect parasites, and none of them detect the problem. Any suggestion?

try googling for pages about the site that gets set as your homepage - you should find some other people with the same problem. also try and find the date and time this happened by looking for 'date created' for relavent files, and then search for all files created at the same time. delete all these and then search the registry for any entries matching these files and any directories they might be in.

It sounds like you have some form of adware installed. I recommend Spybot Search and Destroy to get rid of whatever crapware you may have. Also, Spyware Blaster will prevent any further installation of such programs. Oh yes, and both are freeware!
Hope that helps!

Yeah I tried both of those. It seems like the problem is that whatever I have has installed an extra winlogon.exe which cannot be terminated in order to be deleted. Is there a way to override my computer saying that it is a critical system process??

i've got the same problem, though not with porn. i've got popup ads.
i win a free week on a cruise ship at least every five minutes.
i've run adaware and spybot search and destroy multiple times. neither have picked it up. i've also got spyblaster and norton running on my computer. all of these programs have the latest updates.

nothing has helped.

if you have a file you can't delete try changing it's permissions and denying 'everyone' access to it (asuming you are using 2000 or XP with NTFS and are an administrator). Then when you reboot, the system won't be able to access it. Then just reassign permissions for yourself and delete it.

perhaps you should turn off your Messenger Service (an entirely different thing from MSN Messenger).

administrative tools>services>disable Messenger

here's a thread I posted awhile ago: xp recommended services

just follow the link.

peace

Download a program where you can edit your start-up programs easily. Rather then going in Ms-config. I recommend "Code Stuff Starter" (forget where to DL at... use google) Turn off everything that you dont think NEEDS to be starting up with your comp.

Also go to www.trendmicro.com and use there free virus scanner to see if it detects somthing.

If it does... you will have to do some work with deleting registry keys and whatnot to fully get rid of the thing. The site gives you instructions on how and what to do.

If this all fails... i dont know what to tell you. What virus scanning program do you have on your comp? Hopefully not Norton :frown:

Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against the possession of marijuana and mushrooms in private for personal use.

spybot has its own startup tool as well.
