Ready to birth or not?
    #2290629 - 01/31/04 08:48 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

AFOAF has BRF jars that have been incubating at 83 degrees
in total darkness for 28 days. They appear to be 100%
colonized and no contams.
Some teks she has read say to wait until pins form to
birth and others say to do it at 100%. She plans on
dunking at birth and then rolling in verm and placing
in a small PMP. She has decided for now to place the
jars in the PMP (not running though) and expose them
to 70 degrees and some natural light for a few days to
see if that will stimulate pinning.

Do you wait for pins to form before birthing?

No, especially if you are going to dunk 1st. dunking will abort pins, at least thats what my mommy told me.

you really shouldn't birth untill your fully dialated!

does that mean smashing the jar is like a c-section?

no I think that would be killing the woman and saving the baby maby if you sliced open your jar and birthed it and put it back together for future use then it would be a c section (but imposible unles you have a glass cutter and a glass blowing kit)

after they are colonized plus 4 days, go ahead and birth and dunk them. they will form pins.

I would definately recommend dunking and rolling. I have consistently had better 2nd flushes than first after dunking between the flushes. I have yet to master the perfect moisture content when making substrate and sometimes jars can become somewhat dry after long periods of colonization. Dunking pretty much restores moisture needed by any shrooms that are going to fruit! meaning they will reach maximum size!

Definitely dunk and double end case them/roll them. That will ensure you get a nice flush first time around rather than waiting for it to pin for over a week or so. Dunk it before it pins like the others previous have said.

You usually want to have the pmp running for at least a few hours before you put the jar in it, I'm pretty sure at least.
