Mushrooms in Beijing?
    #2291047 - 02/01/04 04:05 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I have great trouble finding anything on this topic and any help would be appreciated. My question is are there any psylocibe mushrooms that grow in the Beijing area? If so when is the season ?

Any information at all would be helpful, I have searched a lot of places and not found anything.

Try hitting mjshroomer's site. If you can't find what you want there, then you probably won't be able to find it anywhere on the net.

Happy mushrooming!

Nice city Beijing is, as far as China goes.

I'm not certain of any Psilocybes in or near-around Beijing, but i do know that Amanita muscaria has been reported to grow there.

Check the Worldwide Distribution of Neurotropical Fungi paper.. there's not much to be found in China, and China is big, 'same size as the United States.

Good luck,
GG

P. cyanescens is in China and grows int he fall months before the freeze.

China also has Panaeolus subbalteatus and most likely other Psilocybe species. You would bneed to read Chinese and get a chinese shroom ID guide. They have the biggest shroom farms in the world in China and produce millions of pounds of shrooms a year. So they do know what grow s in their country. It is just us who do not know what is there.

I've found these ones in China;

Panaeolina foenisecci
Panaeolus papilionaceus
Psilocybe coprophila

None of them are active.

Yeah, i bet Pan subbalteatus could be a relatively easy find.
I also bet that Copelandia cyanescens grows in the south mainland, near HongKong or on some of those little islands next to HK, but i never found any of them.

I'm not chinese, and i don't speak it either.

All i know how to say in their languange is tea and rice.

I did some hunting in the pasturelands across the mainland, looking for Copelandia or even Cubensis, with no luck. I bet those chinesers find them though, there were so many chinese people running around the country you have to wake up pretty darned early in the morning before they pick all the good stuff.. chinese people everywhere; 'couldn't find a secluded spot in the whole country, even in the wilderness, there was always at least one or two chinese people crawling around in the bushes...........

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

The weather in beijing is extreme - ranging from minus 20 to 40C/101F in the summer - it is very humid.
I would be suprised if anyone there were even aware of magic mushrooms - certainly the lax police over there wouldnt be any the wiser if you were picking in front of them.
I would suggest that panaeolus species would be available in the rural areas outside the city.
I found a few conocybe species but that was it
