working with wheat straw

I was just interested in how you guys might go about preparing your straw. Is wheat straw a good substrate by itself?

Yup, Wheat straw works fine by it self. I cut my straw 2" long and pasturize it for an hour at 160-170 Deg F. then spawn with anything you like. after spawning it is best i have found to compress it while its incubating. speeds up colonization.

I prepare straw to be spawned by pasturization. To do that I simply chop up some straw to 1-3" peices and stuff into cotton pillow sack. Then simmer in the PC for 1hr, I don't use any thermometers and have had success. This is then drained on an oven rack till cool (45min-1hr) spawned and allowed to colonize.
read a FAQ in the bulk section on straw.
