foaf will be throwing some jars into casings here in the next week or so and needs a little advice. she's never done it before and has noticed all the "how to" guides in the 'casings' threads. any tips on which methods to go by?
thanks

Has your foaf ever got her cakes to produce shrooms? I wouldnt recomend doing casings untill you have the PF tek down.

If she has done cakes before and is ready to try casing their are several diffrent teks. Reading up on the diffrent teks will give her an understanding of how to do it. All the basics are in the teks. One tek isnt any better than another. It is a personal preference. Doing the one that sounds the easiest to her is the one she needs to do. Once she gets the basic idea of casing she can try diffrent things with it.

Its all about learning and having fun doing it.

My friend, Don Quixote, cased his first time.

The way he sees it, if you can get myc, you can definately case.

well, i think casing your first time will work just fine, if you pay attention to detail. All the teks in http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/8
will work, but i recommend straight coco coir.

Yeh you'll be fine doing a casing on yr first time, just be patient and carefull!
Satori recommends straight coir, and i would second that.
Myc loves coir, and it is a very distinct color when dry, so a newb wouldn't have to worry about that aspect...
casing is easy and well worth the time/effort IMO...

too many variables to figure, really...
depends on the amount of myc you case
the strain you have
fruiting conditions, etc.
just know that it is a better yield...
if yr nervous i would do some cakes and then some casings

There are too many factors to consider to give an accurate awnser to how casings yield versus cakes, but in general casings yield significanly more than cakes. The purpose of casing is to achieve an even pinset and protect the substrate underneath it.

When I was starting, I could never get cakes to produce well.. Tried casing, and boom! Respectable flushes.

I suggest the 50/50+ for starting out, it seems to work well.

Gluck!
