Most dont. What can I tell you. It's like watching grass grow. We had a lot of rain at the beginning of the year and most were in stone so they did grow. Even then any growth was negligible. But all I can say is give it time. Rock isn't about seeing these major changes with them, it's about keeping cacti true to nature.
If you haven't watered them yet how about some RO or distilled water.
What's your mix?

My desert plants flower very much in rocks. (with a bit of coco around tap root)
Lophs, Ariocarpus and Mammillaria likely flower every season. Gonna see soon will ariocarpus plants flower this year as well.
I use ground water and a bit reindeer bone powder in grow medium as well with rocks. Seems they like it.

They have been working out well. The majority of my ariocarpus have flowered. So has my Astrophytum myriostygma. And my Copiapoa.and several others rock grown.
As for finding rock you don't have to go out and rape nature, businesses can pretty much do that for you lol. Go to your local granite or marble countertop shop and ask for their rock scraps. My buddy is always willing to give me what he is gonna throw out. Just scraps but it's all you need.

Marble countertop shop??!! You obviously don´t live in a 3rd world country like I do !!!!
But seriously, I have always tried to give my Mexican desert cacti a gritty, alkali medium - trying to emulate their conditions in habitat. For coarse grit I buy granitos from a builder´s merchant - they use it here as a coating for exterior walls. And I can buy marble chips from a garden centre, I crush it with a hammer a handful at a time to give me a range of particle sizes. I just add a bit of nutrition in the form of loam and worm casts. The cacti seem to like it.

i do usually fertilize my rock soil cacti (when 95% is inerts, i guess that if you want to see them grow, you gotta fertilize)
But the aim of Soil eaters, is not growing fast. It's growing as close as wild plants do. so i guess that somebody here does not fertilize.

I use just rocks for mine, and only ever rainwater as it falls.
This was after they were planted out to root, after degrafting.

I will take more pics in spring, before and after their first rainfall/water uptake.

My standard mix for Mexican desert cacti (which is what I grow most) is 20% loam and 10% wormcasts. The other 70% is sand, coarse grit and crushed marble.
So I guess I don't really qualify as a stone eater, but my plants seem to like it.

Select a good screen.

Place at the bottom.

Poor in some rock.

Poor baby is so root bound.

Place stone eater in.

And fill around wi with your stone mix.

I usually shake the pot to compact it in. Different sizes of rock. All around. This one astro is gonna grow to be very big. And i suspect this one did not flower to to pot constraint. 2016 is the year it flowers. Im almost certain of it.

As the experiment went these paddles are stuck on pretty good. A good tug and they are practically cemented on.
