White fuzz on stem P. Cubensis kit

Hi everyone, I hope I'm not posting a question that's already been answered, but I can't seem to find any specific information about my concern.
I've recently decided to endeavoure into the mycology world. I just purchased a few good field guides that were highly recommended in this website. I purchased a p. Cubensis growing kit from a Canadian company, I won't mention. The kit comes in a box and the instructions are very confusing. The company boasts that in 3 easy steps, I'll have a box (2lbs) of dry mushrooms. However, after reading the instructions and following them, it turned out to be 3 lengthy flights of steps! Anyways, after a lot of doubt and skeptisism, 3 fairly large mushrooms have sprung up from the soil. I've concerns the whole way through because nothing has happened as the instructions denoted. These 3 are early, as the instructions said that buttons wouldn't be visible for 10-15 days after the light cycle starts. These guys buttoned 5 days after the light cycle started, and where ready to be picked 5 days later. So I'm hoping there rest of the box will fill up, as I can see the mycelium growing though the soil.
I believe I may have picked them too early, but I was concerned about them laying in the soil, and I saw white fuzz on the stem. The fuzz extended from the base, to 3" up the stem. Then there's about 3" of stem without said fuzz. If you have a close look, you can see the fuzzy texture in the photos I've posted. Can anyone let me know there expert advise as to what this fuzz is, and if it's still ok to consume. Thanks!

Your problem was getting a grow kit
Seriously though, they're fine to consume. Once the viel tears, which it has on the ones you've shown, they're ready. You'd only want to leave them a little longer if you wanted the cap to expand enough to get a spore print from.
Take a look at the links in my signature, just about every question you could have is covered.

Fine to consume as said. The growkits try and make out like growing is stupidly easy. Microwave meal instructions do the same, some just say throw it in a microwave for 8 mins, others tell you to take it out and stir, up the power level, let it stand, add water, microwave again etc. Makers think they will sell more if it seems easy, even if the result is not optimal
Same with kits, you will find plenty of threads of improvements to be made on regular grow kits. Telling you to fan, mist, put holes in the bag.
You can see this shroom was grown in a hot dog jar with no fresh air getting in, it became more fuzzy than yours

The fuzzy bottom parts of the stem are super easy to clone. Just as slice it up and throw pieces between a few layers of moist cardboard and place in an unsealed bag/jar wait for mycelium to growthen keep adding cardboard to build up some spawn!
Of course not necassary but easy if you got a few free mminutes and a want for ever more spawn.

while that may work, we try to do things a little less third world usually, most people don't like 50% contamination.

I hear ya, but live and learn. I definitely see why the kit isn't the way to go now. I can see how the other methods I've read would be superior to this method, moisture control being one of those issues. Anyways, I'm happy to read they are good to go, I was worried that mildew took over. Cheers!

I completely agree with that, the box method definitely wasn't the way to go, a friend of mine purchased it and asked me to make it work. So this is totally an experiment lol. Since assembling this kit, I've already put together a terrarium, which should be easier to control. I'm gonna use the rye flour and vermiculite method.

Im on the exact opposite mission than. I much prefer having experience in low tech methods because not only are they applyable almost everywhere on earth but also in emergencys right here at home. Only knowing one high tech way to do things doesnt leave any options when it comes to extreme crises or disaster.
