5 questions, answer as much as you can please
    #2285831 - 01/29/04 11:25 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

this is my third grow. im using 14 1/2 pint jars, 9 pf tek and 5 with millet. im going to build a grow box with 1 pmp and 1 rubbermaid as a huge casing using dung. now for the questions.

1. how much spawn/substrate/casing layer would be good to use for a 50L rubbermaid?

2. what is the best way to automate the above terranium so no misting or fanning is required?

3. should i make normal casings with the millet or spawn it and case that?

4. when spawning should i apply the top casing layer when i make the casing or after the substrate has colonized?

5. is it ok to dry the mushrooms by just putting them on a tshirt and folding it over and leaving it like that til they are cracker dry or will that lose some potency? is there a better way?

i guess i jumped the gun a bit on this grow but i was eager to get it underway. ive just shaken the millet jars because they are growing quite fast but the other 9 are showing absolutely no sign of colonization (innoculated 5 days ago). they might show some signs soon but my other 2 grows were colonizing quite well after 5 days so im a little confused. i know im missing something so ill post it as soon as i can remember what it was.

For the big rubbermaid fill it with a bottow casing layer for extra water content.. Then place your crumbles jars on that. Then lay some pasturizes straw down and more myc. on top.. Do it in layers this way it colonizes the straw from the top and bottom. Do this until about 8 inches thick. Place this back into the incubator until it fully colonizes the straw. THen apply you casing layer and incubate for about another 2 days or until the myc. pops through evenly in top. Then cut a hole in the lid for a light. Then just give it some light.

Just fan it about twice a day. This method does a good job at keepin the humidity up.

good luck

anything that is more than 6 inches deep will make the interior of the substrate suffacate that was from paul statment and 5 inches or less is better I have found 4 to work really well and definitly do the bottom casing layer

Heh, I just imagined your avatar saying, "Eight inches?!" and something about a van.

If you want to make sure they are 100% dry then you would be wise to fan them and then dessicate.
