So what?
I don't think it would cause all the dramatic changes Patlal is talking about, but I think a reduction in meat consumption would benefit the general ecological and societal health and welfare.

I know your posting quality and generality are on par with Pris#1 and you are as described as in you title but, I'll respond. Through weights and steroids Arnold achieved stuff you cannot ever possibly dream of. I don't see why his past career affects his currents views and advice on the current state of our society and world. He speaks with knowledge and authority, he knows what he is speaking about and it is not based on his personal, limited experiences and views.

For freshwater shellfish, I can certainly see that. I wonder if freshwater clams and mussels would even be any good to eat though? Seems like all the flavor in these creatures comes from the sea salt that is concentrated in their bodies.
I'm considering going pescatarian again and limiting my meat consumption to once a week. Personally, I don't even like red meat unless it's really high-quality like meat from Whole Foods or from a steakhouse. Low-quality, cheap beef, like the kind commonly found in large chain grocery stores just tastes rubbery, chewy, and.... shitty.
The grocery store just down the block from where I live now carries such shitty beef, that I've pretty much completely stopped eating beef unless I go out of my way to travel 10 miles to the nearest Whole Foods or a different market. That is the only time I will ever buy beef anymore. I've pretty much already limited my beef consumption to twice a month, the hard part will be quitting pork and chicken.
Beef is one of those foods where how the cows have been raised drastically alters its taste and texture. It's true for everything, but I notice that the difference is predominant ESPECIALLY in beef:

It's already happening. Apparently America consumed 500 million less animals this year due to less meat consumption: http://www.forksoverknives.com/americans-are-eating-less-and-less-meat-every-year-why/

I think the jury is still out on whether or not factory farming is destroying the evnironment. I think it's absolutely a morally deplorable industry, and should minimized as much as possible. I also think that the number 1 killer of men, heart disease, would drop dramatically if consumption of red meats were reduced.

Patlal said: Here's my guess of what would happen should 15% of the population becamme vegetarian
- The corn/oats/soybean farming industry would collapse. More than half of what they grow is used to feed cattle - Water pumping and cleaning station would close down. More than 60 if not 70% of the clean water goes to cattle - Farmland would become worthless - The oil industry would tke a solid hit - The crops could be sent to Africa which would most likely feed every human on the continent. - Greenhouse gases level would drop radically - Deforestation would be halted because farmland is the main reason why forests are cut down - The lumber industry would collapse - Massive bailouts would be needed on a global scale - Increase in veggie crops (obviously) but they require less than a 10th the size of cattle farm operation to yeild the same weight in food
Bla bla bla, yada yada yada...
Based on some research and logical connections.

by 'research' you must surely mean 'pulled straight from my ass'.
-the people would have to eat something other than meat and since vegdies and shit are less nutrient dense we'd have to eat more -cattle dont drink municipal water -farm values would remain the same -production of vegetables and grains would actually require more energy since cattle dont require a need for being planted, tended to and harvested, nor do they require drying after a harvest -food or a lack of isnt the actual problem with africa, it's ignorance and war -decomposing plant matter is responsible for more methane production than animals -the forestry industry would not be affected
etc...

We have GMO beef now???
Yes, legumes, soy and such. Plant based GMOs are the solution.
GMO salmons??? Are we growing these things in test tubes???
