First time finding this species. Not totally for certain it's Gymnopilus but there are some characteristics that give me enough of a feeling that it is to bring it to you guys.
Found in North Florida growing under a mature pine on rotten pine deadfall/cones/etc.
Cap color is orange to a yellow sometimes both.
Stem is longer and more slender then other Gyms I know.Appears hollow but I noticed they are being eating inside out by bettle larvae. Found some solid stems.
No noticeable veil.
Taste is bitter/peppery hard to explain but definitely different than just a mushroom taste, from what I remember like Gym Spec but it's been a few years so I don't want to trust myself to much on that.
Also bruises to a similar degree like Gym spec on stems ,gills, caps, etc.to a dark brown and progressively gets darker over time. Although no blueing on pins as other Gyms I have encountered.
Taking prints right now. Please let me know if there is anything else I can add or a different view you need.http:/[url=http://files.shroomery.org/files/16-005/480169365-10.jpg][image]http://www.shroomery.org/forums/thumbs/16-005/480

It's in that group. Distinctive features that I can see are the very finely squamulosa pileus and the brown staining on both stem and cap where damaged.

I know what the print will look like - what we need to examine are the cheilocystidia, pleurocystidia, caulocystidia, pileocystidia, lamellar trama, pileus trama, spore size and ornamentation.

I wish I had a scope that had that kind of magnification. Are you interested in examining them or are you backed up?
I have a el cheapo microscope I got for my children, are any of those features identifiable under low magnification? I know examining the spores is out of the question for me.

I have too many Gymnopilus to work on of my own.

Probably not. Some of those can show you a little at 200 or 400x, however given the time it takes to learn what you are looking at, it would be worthwhile to invest in a $160 scope if you plan to go in that direction.

Yea it would be worth it.I'd like to get one I can hook up to a camera and document everything.
Are Gymnopilus Sapineus and Gymnopilus Penetrans considered the same species I've seen some info out there that seems to lump them together.
