Scaly Stems on B+
    #2287556 - 01/30/04 06:10 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

FOAF is having trouble nailing down the problem with a disappointing grow. He has four half-pints in a geolite-lined terrarium. Three are Ecquidors and one is a B+. The B+ colonized first, was dunked & double-end cased, and then (eventually) produced a lame first flush with small, slow-growing mushies. He then dunked the cake again for 18 hours and almost immediately new pins formed, but these are also growing slowly and have scaly stems and even the edges of the caps have white scales. In the meantime, the Ecquidors colonized and have been sitting in the fruiting chamber doing nothing for close to two weeks (one was dunked, the other two were not, all are double-end cased). The chamber is tub-in-tub, with temp constant at 70-75 degrees. Humidity looks fine -- lots of condensation on walls and lid. Two air exchanges per day, plus a recently added aquarium pump. Light from a compact flourescent bulb several hours per day. Is there anything left I can check? Are the scaly stems telling me something useful? Thanks for any advice.

sometimes mycellium looking stuff grows on fruitbodies when the co2 is too high. try fanning more or adding something to constantly exchange air.

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Is that a grow light or full spectrum bulb - I had a problem on my first grow they were getting no natural light and my light was not full spectrum, I got a grow light and had tons of pins 2 days later.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I will tell FOAF to increase air exchange some more and see about getting a full spectrum bulb!
