All-American Canner #930 - Pressure Regulator?
    #2286567 - 01/30/04 08:21 AM (20 years, 2 months ago)

Afoaf picked up this all-american canner at a very nice price. It didnt come with a manual. However, there isnt a pressure regulator weight on the unit. Im wondering if this can be set to maintain 15psi? If it can't maintain 15psi, it looks as if I could buy a pressure weight and valve to replace it if the existing is unable to.

My foaf has worked with all-american 21.5 quart in the past and has always put about an 1" of water at the bottom for cooking. This pc seems to be about the same width, only taller. Should my friend still add 1" of water? He thinks so because he doesnt want to submerge the jars to much causing the bottom of the substrate jars to cook. He isn't sure.

No, you will have to buy the regulator weight.

You have a model #930 there. It will hold 19 pints or 14 quart jars. The device you have on it is called a pressure release valve. The factory no longer puts these on pressure cookers. As long as the spring inside it lasts you are good to go. If it is weak it will let pressure out before it gets to 15lbs. At that time you will need part #69, vent pipe and part #68 (pressure regulator weight). Contact orders@mycobag.com for a price quote on parts or a manual. The manual is $5 plus shipping I believe.

So it doesn?t have and need the pressure regulator weight anymore? Didn?t know that....

Sorry if I was not clear. The kind he has on his is the out dated type. All the new ones have the vent pipe and a weight on them. They also had vent pipes and weights before the regulator. I think they stopped using the regulators because they lost the UL listed tag for a while. The UL label is back and so is the weight system.

If you look on the exterior bottom side in the center is a 2 digit number telling the year of manufacture.

Open the "release" valve and fire up the burner.
After a steady stream of steam blows out of it for a
few minutes get a oven mitt and close the valve. This
will purge the air out of the pc.
Watch the gauge and when it hits 10 psi turn down
the heat to medium. The pressure will continue to rise
and you need to watch the heat setting to maintain 15psi.
Thats how afoaf was told to run hers anyhow. Sh'e got
a 15.5qt "queen" model which appears the same as a 915.

BTW, Thanks for the part numbers. I did notice that the
release valve wasn't listed as a part number.

I have that exact same pressure cooker. It works great. I wouldnt run it without the propper weight though.  Thats probably why it was sold for such a good deal because the weight is pretty much what completes the pressure cooker.

Anyways, nice grab, just get the peice thats missing and youll have yourself a nice item. :heartpump:

So without the pressure regulator, you ajust the heat to maintain your desired pressure?

And the ones with the regulator will maintain pressure on its own?

Im about to purchase a AA cooker, and i want to get one that will maintain pressure on its own...
My friend has an old shittie AA cooker without a weight, and the pressure just kept rising to the critical level, the spring release valve never released pressure...
