dead threads revived
    #22866563 - 02/05/16 04:47 AM (8 years, 27 days ago)

After a dead thread is revived by a member commenting, often you'll see another member comment in short about it being dead. Sometimes inferring or plainly stating that a new comment wasn't needed. . . and sometimes I see why.

The member who revived a dead thread could've made a new post regarding their comment, but for whatever reason chose not to.

Have you revived a dead thread and/or commented on one? If so, why? What say you about dead threads revived?

Even if the thread is several years old, as long the comments are on topic, thought provoking and add to the discussion, I enjoy reading through some dead threads revived that I find interesting.

I have, recently responded to post I didn't even realize, in my blind ignorance, was revived.

But more to the point, and I often wonder about this because I feel so...distant from the um, status quo? no....the regular, normal people here...there are many time I 'search' a topic and want to respond, but know, know...I will get nothing but the same old shit. Not even different old shit. The same old shit.

And maybe they have a point but...

"What movie should I watch and how much acid / shrooms should I take?'

...flies like nobody's business.

Fuck those acid movie watching guys.

Buy really, #SupportGoodThreads

'...mindless member responding to random threads they searched up.'

Even if the OP is dead, so wat? FLAME AWAY! Seems to be the order anyway.

Hurts, so deep. If other people respond, nicely? OP can fuck all. Doesnt matter to searchers 2 years hence.

WScott, as far as I'm concerned it's fine to continue an old discussion, as long as you have something to add. It's annoying when someone bumps a thread with a smiley or "i agree" or something like that, but if you want to revive a topic it's okay. Just take the time say why you're doing so, even if it's just "I know this is old but it's a good thread, have there been any developments lately?" Doc_T explains it perfectly.

Bump a thread when you can add something relevant.
Ok to ask a relevant question if you acknowledge you are necro-bumping.

But as far as I know you can't get banned for bumping. You can get banned for being a PITA, I believe?

The exception of course is bumping these two threads. This should be done with some regularity.

I like how some threads are perfectly fine to bump, like the Brandon green krystyl cole one, or "what's happening to my body? (Or five things i learned rotting my limbs off with irresponsible rc consumption)

Personally i think people need to get iver thread resurrection spells, are they really that harmful?

It's a matter of context.  If someone has something to actually contribute to the discussion, sure, bump that thread.  However, a lot of old thread resurrections are the work of spammers.  Since their threads get dumped if they come in and start a new thread to spam for a business, what a lot of them do now is do a quick search.  Let's say they're selling glowsticks and kandi gear; they'll run a search for "rave toys" in the subject, and will find an 11 year old thread called "rave toys".  Then they resurrect the thread not with discussion, but with a link to a site selling rave toys & a quick testimonial about how satisfied they are with their recent purchase from the site.  That kind of thing is bullshit and irritates some members.
