Agar first timer!
    #22859226 - 02/03/16 11:42 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

I have an understanding of where I should make incisions to do a transfer but any advice would be much appreciated.

These plates were incubating in a room with fluctuating temperatures. This was for fun as I like to think that this mycelium may develop a 'taste' for colder temps.

I've never heard of a fungus 'hardening off'.

You can develop a strain that performs better than others in colder temps but it will not grow go love it, it will just deal with it better.

Even then its going to take ALOT of effort. Willsolvem had a strain that would fruit well in the 50's I think.

Vag-Artist

Does the third picture above look like mycelium to you or a contam?

there are all from spore solutions.

the center of the circle has whispy myc growing up and then it get very thick outside of that

I've seen mushrooms this past January, in Ohio outdoors.  Strange to see a mushroom this time of year.  I didn't ID the two I saw, they were obviously not actives.

It would take a very long time to evolve a variety to adapt to cold a environment.  Evolution is slow.  I suppose gene splicing and all that could accomplish something sooner.

Picture is blurry

But go wash your hands man.  Jesus christ :horrified:

Lava te los manos!

EDIT: I say this because it looks like you been digging ditches or working on a car all day. And your handling your plates with those hands  :chinaman:

I think your agar might be a tad dry, is it pulling away from the sides?

How did you inoculate these? With a spore syringe?

Re: Agar first timer! Updated New Transfer [Re: Mrcloudy]

Hello community!

I have made transfers from the best looking dishes.

I was able to make a third transfer today and decided to take photos afterwards.

All of this was done in a sterile environment.

NOTE* the black specs on the dishes is carbon from the slicing instrument.

Can anyone tell me if this is mycelium or not? It would be a shame if I was culturing some raunchy white mould-mold.. It has been over 3 weeks now and nothing has turned any funky colors on me so hopefully i have not been!

carbon made it onto the transfer dish.. the spec in the center is from the previous transfer.

took some stabs to see if I could detect an odor. prob not the best practice!

Whatever this is, i'm having fun doing it!!!!!!

Much respect to allof those who are more knowledgable than myself
