Bulk substrate questions
    #22866869 - 02/05/16 08:20 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

I don't understand the percentage of materials needed for each substrate mixture. I've read somewhere here a universal substrate mixture of hpoo, coir, verm, gypsum. 50/30/15/5

Can someone please explain how they actually break down those measurements from percentages to cups or liters?

I might be over thinking it a bit, i understand the end goal is to have a substrate or casing at a certain ph level that your species thrives at.

There is no universal ratio. I usually shoot for 40-50% vermiculite, a handful if gypsum, and the other 50-60% hpoo (or coir or coir and hpoo  or whatever)

Honestly you can change the mixtures up to suit your fancy but I recommend at least 30% verm if not 45%. I usually do 30% hpoo, 30% coir 40% Verm and then throw in a few handfuls of gypsum, oystershell, and worm casings for a sub- no extra nutes in a casing
