I'm assuming you mean to cook in and pour out of.
Any autoclavable container will do if modified. Some are more user friendly than others

A dedicated media bottle is worth every penny. (7-10$ with shipping) last link in my signature.

Foil would do the trick.

A-men to that.
Glad I'm not the only one.

Likewise even open air 20 high stacks is hard to work with.

I use a screw cap wine bottle. Most inexpensive white wine comes with screw caps now days instead of corks.
Although I have to use my Presto because My AA is a little to short for a 500ml wine bottle.
Lately I have been using a qrt mason jar to prep my agar. Just need to be careful when pouring plates so that you don't spill it everywhere.

I meant glad I'm not the only one who pours plates drunk.

Love those. I use one too. A sterile media flask is worth it's weight in gold.

I tried a pour tek earlier and had the agar at the bottom become firm while the agar at the top was more watery. Any tips on how to avoid this? It was all the same consistency before going into the PC.

I've never seen that happen. I would have to see it to believe it. in the dishes or in the bottle you sterilized the agar in?

In the bottle, I used a quart jar, and allowed the PC to cool for an hour before taking the jar out.

Pour hotter, the bottom agar is cooling too much before your pour is complete.

I figured.. Just saw some people say to wait a few hours to avoid condensation on petris. I'll try to do it as soon as I can touch the PC I guess. Thanks.

If you double up on nitrile gloves it buys you some good time. You can pour in sets of 5 or so and give your hand a few seconds to cool down before you grab it again.

Oh I don't think I'll have a problem holding a hot jar. I can't feel shit through my fingertips due to calluses from playing guitar and bass. I just saw some posts about letting the agar cool until it is about to set to avoid condensation. Guess that was bad advice...

You want to cool your agar in a water bath then pour.

Why 47?
Quote:
Agar exhibits hysteresis, melting at 85 °C (358 K, 185 °F) and solidifying from 32–40 °C (305–313 K, 90–104 °F). This property lends a suitable balance between easy melting and good gel stability at relatively high temperatures.
I find it starts to gel back up at about 107F or 42C most of the time at the gel strength used for plates. at 47C you can pour a whole sleeve of plates before it gels up on you. and pouring at as low of a temperature as possible minimizes condensation a lot.
to get agar to melt again you have to go all the way back up to 85C, once it is gel simply heating it 47+ won't melt it.
