users experiences/opinions of active mushrooms native to NY
    #2284059 - 01/29/04 03:14 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

after reading the FAQ's about active magic mushrooms which grow in new york state, those being

1.psilocybe caerulipes
2.psilocybe semilanceata
3.psilocybe silvatica
4.panaeolus papillionaceus
5.conocybe cyanopus
6.gymnopilus luteofolius
  and finally,
7.gymnopilus validipes, i was wondering if anyone here has had experience injesting these mushrooms, and if so,could you comment on the qualitative psychotropic aspects,as compared to 'run of the mill' psilocybe mushrooms from the black market???????? :mushroom2: thanks

opinions from those age twenty-nine and older are especially encouraged !

Hmmph...

I dont believe that:
4.panaeolus papillionaceus
5.conocybe cyanopus

are active mushrooms.

Finding psilocybe caerulipes will be very difficult. I have yet to see anyone post pictures of hallucinogenic wild mushrooms from New York. I would assume the easiest mushroom to find there would be Panaeolus subbalteatus. Even that species has not been brought to my attention from that state.

You would probably be able to find Gymnopilus species there... They are quite common through North America.... However, here on the west coast, they are inactive.

Sorry Angry Shroom but Conocybe cyanopus is difinitely psychoactive with many trytamine alkaloids in them including psilocine, psilocybine and baeocystine.

Here are some of the references to their chemical analysis.

Baeocystin In Conocybe Species:
Conocybe cyanopus (Gartz, 1992b; Gartz, 1993a; Gartz, 1996; Repke, Leslie & Guzm?n, 1977).
Conocybe Smithii:
(Repke, Leslie & Guzm?n, 1977).

Psilocin In Conocybe Species:
Conocybe cyanopus (Christiansen, Rasmussen & H?iland, 1984; Ohenoja et al., 1987).

Psilocybine in Conocybe species.
Conocybe cyanopus (Benedict, Tyler & Watling, 1967; Benedict et al., 1962; Beug & Bigwood, 1982; Christiansen, Rasmussen & H?iland, 1984; Gartz, 1992b; Gartz, 1993a; Gartz, 1996; Ohenoja et al., 1987).

Conocybe kuehneriana (Ohenoja et al., 1987).

Conocybe smithii (Benedict, Tyler & Watling, 1967; Benedict, Brady, Smith & Tyler, 1962).

And there are four Conocybes which are psychoactive.
mj

AS for P. papilionaceus, It is closer to P. subbalteatus and Copelandia cyanescens in the literature than to the P. campanulatus/sphinctrinus complex which Stamets claimed in his book Psilocybine Mushrooms of the Wolrd.

I base those on taxonomic literaure and identification due to Chinese and Japanese cases of accidental ingestion where P. papilionaceus has documented line drawings show both P. subbalteatus and/or Copelandia cyanescens. The Taxonomic ID of p one collection of P. papilionaceus as the cap becomes flat in age.

Well in P. papilionaceus the cap is always conic and in P. subbalteatus the cap becomes flat.

Mjshroomer.

I also only cited the references, not the actual listtings of those refs.
And Gymnopilus species have 13 species inthe genera which contain psilocine and psilocybine.

I doubt m/any people here have had any of the mushrooms on that list other than Psilocybe Semilanceata (liberty caps), which you would be lucky to find and then most likely only in upstate. It is supposed to be a very clean trip, many peoples favorite.

But as angry mentioned you'd be better off looking for Pan. Subbs or a Gym species. But gyms have been reported to be bitter and not that pleasant on your system and maybe containing other alkaloids which could be harmful.

The only photos I've seen of actives from NY are in peoples closets and one successfull outdoor grow from Comario2

New York

Peace - @cro

PS. where you been angry?

hey, im in cali and i found nothing but an assload of papilonicaeous (sp). so far from all my sources, i have come to the conclusion that:
1 pap are non toxic but possibly mildly hallucinogenic
2 pap are hallucinogenic (erowid 186 known hallucinogenic mushrooms)
unfortunatly my 3 lbs of these have been stolen. i will get more soon and attempt a trip. anyone curious about the experience email me at hkmark23@military.com. i will not be back to this post.

I live near the capital area of NY, and I too was wondering if it would be possible to find any wild. I'm live in a dorm, so growing isn't really an option, and the street prices seem a bit high (I don't even know how to get my hands on any). I wish I knew an experienced mushroom hunter.
