Polyfill vs Tyvek

Instead of dropping cash on more polyfill than I need, can I just cannabalize one of my unused pillows? Or should I explore the free tyvek envelopes that our government provides to the mushroom community?

you could... if you wanted to ruin a pillow to save $4.

never used polyfill. tried tyvek once, had jars colonising for verrry long (they were kinda overcooked and werent incubated) they took like 3 months incubating but the tyvek kept each one contam free, if that says anything. also it seems like this stuff would last forever, you never need to change it just put a 1/2 inch or so hole in your jar lid and silicon on a piece of tyvek. the tyvek has much smaller air holes than polyfill while still allowing sufficient air exchange.

tyvek is fool proof if you dont use the polyfil right it will alow contams to get through you just need to pack it reall tight and youll be fine one advantige to pollyfill is that you can inject throught it but I like tyvek better I just put another hole in the lid and tape it works great

tyvek almost feels like regular paper, but w/ a bit of wax thrown in. if you can tear it, it's not tyvek.

I just have two pieces of foil over my lids (the one innoculated through under a second layer obviously. I don't use a filter and things have never ever gone wrong. I don't see it likely that it will either.
If you can acquire filter easily, by all means. But I'm not going to try too hard because it makes no difference to me. Why put a direct route to your innoculation holes when you could just as easily foil over, leaving pretty much only the indirect route caused by an imperfect seal of foil.
