How much light, many different answers...

Okay, newbie, but well searched newbie question. How much light is optimal for the little guys from pinhead formation through growth?
In the FAQ's you see everthing from "a few minutes a day" to posters raving about 5-6 hours, to one claiming 24/7 is best. Is there an answer???

Mushies aren't like plants. THey don't need long amounts of light. The light is just a signal to start fruiting. So a few minutes a day is fine. On my first cake i had about 1 hour...seemed to do the trick.

I just leave in on like it was a day cycle when the sun comes the light goes on when the sun sets it goes off i think this what happens in nature so thats what i do. but an hour will do it. I do think 12 off 12 on does help with pin formation but that only my opinion

It's a signal to begin fruiting and also a directional hint, right. My question is, if myc. is actuated by light like this, wouldn't it be best to simulate a natural environment (as w/ temp., humidity, gas levels, etc.) by providing a regular on-off schedule like fee? Maybe mycelium just gets its cues and stops giving a fuck about light, though. Dunno. Does Stamets have anything to say about this? There have to be measurable light-related chemical changes.

I haven't experienced that it is a firm answer. I've had good yields with 4-6 hrs per day, and I've also had good yields with like an hour a day. Just give it SOME light everyday, and it should be good. ALso, make sure you fan a couple times a day too.

AFOAF sustained that more light = less psylocin. I would do just 2/3 hours a day: not too much, not too less

Mex says more light=less psilocin. Any other ideas on the best light schedule and exactly why? Thanks. -Che

Utopianglory says just freestyle it and his justification is that it doesn't seem to make any difference - many people will tell you this.
About the only thing you need to concern yourself regarding light is that as with plants, the mushrooms will grow towards the light..
