made a casing yesterday, a few Q's
    #2283209 - 01/29/04 10:17 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I made my first casing yesterday night, checked on it a few mins ago, and theres lots of water on the lid. I'm using a 2in deep tin tray with a see through plastic lid and I cased with straight verm. Is the water on the lid normal? First I was worried that I didn't have enough water now i'm wondering if its too wet.

The reason you have condensation on the lid is because you have high humidity in your tub. To answer your question, yes it is common to have water on the lid in this situation but you should not be attempting to seal the container. It is perfectly ok to just get some foil and cover the tray without trying too hard to seal it, you want some airflow. You must wait for the casing to take before attempting to fruit it in a moderatly humidified chamber. More than likely putting the top on is creating too much humidity as it is..

I have heard of people incubating casings before they grow in high humidity. Mycellium grows pretty thick in high humidity so its not necessarily a bad thing but thats up to you.

In summary, yes, it is ok. But the best solution is probably to just not put the lid on tight, don't attempt to seal the container.

Is it condensation from the lid of your terrarium? Edit: 2 min. too late.

Yes sounds like your ok as long as the water does not bead up on the surface of the casing ....that can damage the growth.
