Since this is new, nothing is customary. You would be experimenting. I'd guess 50/50 brewed coffee and water in the spawn stages. Just don't use it to hydrate your casings.
If you are doing several jars, consider making half with coffee and keep your old recipe for the other half. You could tell us what happens and add to the knowledge. JMO

Mycelium is the plural form for hyphae. Mycelium is made of multiple strands of hyphae. If you want to talk about multiple myceliums, it then would be mycelia.

Heheh OK I wasn't digging in that deep, didn't even think of hyphae. Hyphae is the plural of hypha. So, one hypha, or a group of hyphae; agglomerated hyphae = one mycelium, or a group of mycelia. Thanks for the reminder derx.
To keep in the thread, I forgot to mention that spent coffee grounds didn't make any difference in my growth either. It seemed to slow the growth of some warm growing coprophiles when mixed at about 25% with rye grain, but I think that may have been more about too-high moisture than about the coffee this time. Too many variables to be sure so I'm just noticing things unscientifically as I go along. Nothing new again, just adding my observations to the growing empiricals.

Cool. Knock both batches at the same time and let us know which wins the colonization race.

ive knocked up some 50/50 coffee diluted rye berries with agar at 3/11 and the jar has been fully colonized about 5 days later. It got light from hour 0 and has about 30?C all the time. But till today all i can see is maybe some knots, i cannot really say if this is prepins forming or just some thicker points of mycelia grow.
So how long did it take you maximum to see your fruitbodys invitro ?
and maybe its my strain which is not good invitro, so what special strains have been tested for very good invitro results ?

i have a 90% ksss jar going. Can i fill the top of the jar with 50/50 coffee/water, lazy dunking it, and getting better results or does it have to be soaked into the grain?

I'm still not ready to recommend a coffee dunk. Too many people have had problems with contamination after dunking in coffee. Just use it before the PC to hydrate your grains.

I tried dunking in coffee with a few cakes in there 3rd or 4th flush and all of them got more mushrooms than the previous flush. They were pf tek and rinsed off the cakes after i dunked them.

Cool, but not really scientific. The picture doesn't say anything about coffee. The only difference is the simmer. Is everything else the same?

yes I did 6 of each same rye soaked for the same amount of time PCed together, innoced with same syringe strained the same amount of time, exatly the same, the only difference is that one was simmered in coffee the 6 simmered in coffee all are within 3% total colonization the 6 simmered in water all are less than 60% colonized

Excellent! I didn't know that you meant coffee in the simmer. Looks like we have an actual controlled experiment. Thanks Penlight.
Now it will be interesting to see how the contamination and fruiting issues play out.

I haven't noticed much in the line of colonization, but fruits seem to be more prolific and dare I say more potent.
