Well I haven't been on the shroomery in a long Damn time but I need to vent about something and this just seemed to be the right place.
I got popped hauling a few pounds of herb. Spent a week in jail waiting for them to lower my $5000 bail or at least ok a bail bond. So alright that sucked but whatever I knew what I was doing and accepted the risk whole heartedly. However the news I got today just has me pissed off at the system and the people enforcing bs laws with outrageous punishment.
I got a plea deal today from my attorney.I was told that it's an unbelievable deal by everyone and the odds of getting any better are nothing more than a fantasy.
The state is recommending I serve 4yrs in state penitentiary after reducing my charge to a 4th degree possession and a guilty plea. Ha I am told I should be happy the possibility of 15yrs isn't hanging over my head anymore.
Now.... Who the hell saw my case and said,yup 4yrs in prison is an equal and fair punishment for the crime?

Why aren't the prosecutors that push for these ridiculous punishments getting more negative attention from their peers and community. I mean filling communities with what were non violent offenders after sending them into a place that punishes rather than rehabilitates. To me it seems like behaviors that could have been fixed are mearley made worse through harsh punishment. the obstacles that come with a felony record and the affects long prison time have ensure a greater chance of criminal activity. I mean Damn, it's suffocating communities by turning ordinary fuck ups into hardened criminals who can either conform to a society they no longer know and in return doesn't want them or return to crime full force because they just spent a stretch becoming comfortable around criminals and their behavior.
Perfect example being,I have decided on multiple occasions that opportunities I've had were not worth possibly fcking up my future over. Now if I get a felony record I'm already tarnished and you can bet a quick buck isn't so scary now that I have already lost what I was trying to keep.

I can't believe this, some kid in my area got popped driving 85lb. from Cali to the NE US and it's looking like he will probably get a year probation. He's got a recognized name in the area.

4 years, so you wont do that much time, like maybe 1.2-1.5 years incarcerated and then the rest on parole.
See if your state has substance abuse programs which you can do in prison, this might lower your time being locked up. Many programs are 6 months long, but you're still in prison,

How much jail time is stipulated? Listen to your lawyer, that might be the best deal you are going to get. If you only have to do 2 years it isn't that bad if it was for a few pounds.

Bullshit. A friend of mine did 6 months probation for 40+ pounds along with a few ounces of wax, several other miscellaneous drugs and paraphernalia, 14 guns, and admitting to moving nearly 2000 pounds over the course of a year.
All he had to do was tell them his smuggling techniques in detail and set someone up (a guy that had ripped him off for a lot of money before, no friends)

Also, state to state differs. He might have been in a worse one.
I'm not retarded. That is the plea deal he was given. He was looking at even more time than that. If he tries to fight it in court and loses he will do more time than that.
