Mycobag Q
    #2282299 - 01/29/04 01:03 AM (13 years, 26 days ago)

I just recieved two grain based mycobags and am wondering if there is any info I should know about them. like which strains do best in the grain-based bags, and what casing method I should use. If you have any useful info about mycobags that could help me out I would really appreciate it! Thanks, peace.

I have a rye mycobag that I innoculated with B+ a week ago. I have read about several problems having problems with slow colonization with mycobags, but the bag is 50% done, and has been at room temp (70*) for the last week, and I innoced a pf jar the same day and still cant see any growth in it. Theres not much to them...and I'm pretty sure any casing method will work.

just make sure you mix it up when you see mycilium that way it spreads innoculating points and makes a faster groe and try to get it at 86 degrees

Any cube will do fine in a grain bag. EQ's did very well for my friend, Don Quixote. B+ were cool too... a little slower, but he thought the trip was more pleasant than EQ. Worth the wait. I imagine any cube you fancy will work well.

The key is mushing the bags at the right times.

By all means, smush the bags after inoculating. Inoculate between the substrate and the plastic, suirt the spores on the plastic of the bag near the injection port... then mush the bag... mush it 'till it has the consistency of potting soil.

Bags are strong, they can take a mashing.

Mush the bag well again at 20% colonization, make sure you mix the myc all through the bag. break the mycelia up well, it may look like it vanishes... trust me, it is still there. Cube myc is strong.

Mash your bag again at 70-80% (This will come quickly... a few days after your last mushing) colonization to spread the myc into the last uncolonized parts of the bag... then leave it alone.

If your bag is incubated at room temp. or higher (80-84 degrees is great... bags create more heat than cakes) Follow these instructions... use a sterile syringe... and you will get shrooms.

You can case, fruit as a cake, or fruit in the bag. Honestly, the bag makes a great terrarium.
