another uncolonized substrate question
    #2281727 - 01/28/04 08:44 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Ok, i have 4 half pint cakes, there is mycelium on only two sides of the cakes. Will the mycelium make its way around to the other side of the cakes or would it be possible to inject more spore solution on the uncolonized side? And if not, would it be possible to take about 4 or 5 golf ball sized colonized cake and make a really, really small casing?

First, how old are they?

If only 2-3 weeks old, i wouldn't get off the bus yet!

sometimes jars can stall and take a little longer.

once the mycillium has a strong hold{35%}, take the tape off the holes and place a coffee filter over the jars with a rubberband so it can breath with added protection from contams, then flip the jars over and it should catch up, make sure your incubator is set at 83 degrees to give a few degrees room for the warmth in the jars!

alright, i turned the jars upside down and the mycelium is growing a little better. But if worse comes to worst would it be possible to make a small casing out of a couple partially colonized cakes?

The sub should be fully colonized before you case it. I suppose it would be possible, however, to only take the colonized portions out and case them.
How long has it been since you innoculated the jars?
Whats the temperature?

Also you could try shaking the jars, to distribute the mycelium, if there is ample space in the jars to do so.
