Music Appreciation 101 - Trip Report
    #1980213 - 10/04/03 11:24 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

I had a very enjoyable trip off 3.5 grams last night with a friend. Probably one of the best trips I've ever had.. we reclined in silence on two extremely confortable couches, lights dimmed, very relaxed atmosphere--- listening to Pink Floyd's The Wall I & II, Pink Floyd's Meddle and Best of Pink Floyd. I don't believe I've ever heard music so divine, excellent experience.

tripping out in a comfortable place with good lighting and listening to music is my favorite way, by far, to enjoy mushrooms. it's a damn well spiritual experience.

listen to some good psy trance, it's unreal.

wow, listening to The Wall trippin on an eighth would be quite a ride.  You've convinced me, I must do this ASAP

In 7th grade I heard the Wall for the first time, and it lauched my music obsession that burns brightly to this day

Hi there. First post here...

With all due respect, The Wall is a turged, tangled and incredibly painful piece of work. What Waters was pointing at among many other things, was the disassembly of his indoctrinated past lifestyle and the incurrant wrath endured. Call me a freak, but i'd far rather listen to 'Deep Forest' and have a peaceful, natural, 'loved up' journey to my core. Don't get me wrong though ~ I LUV the Floyd. One of my favourite bestest ever gigs was Pink Floyd @ Earl's Court in London. Mind blowing.

Anyone here into Orbital ? I swear ~ these guys divine esoteric codes, spells if you like. Direct routes to inner/outer worlds and realms. One among many artists working on bringing back real trancendental information.
Please allow me to list others:

Steve Hillage (Guitarist most prolific in the 70's, now a founder memeber of:)
System 7
The Orb
DJ Sasha
Gong
Banco De Gaia
Eat Static

Anyone who'd like info/guides etc on these artists and their work, please feel free to ask.

Onwards and upwards,
Muck

Orbital is awesome. I have their "Orbital 2" CD. Excellent tripping music. The Orb is also nice. "Little Fluffy Clouds" is one of my favorite songs (Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld). I just ordered UFOrb off Amazon.com.

I can't believe Shpongle has not yet been mentioned. Try listening to Shpongle (any Shpongle, they have 2 CDs) while you're tripping.

Radiohead (Kid A, OK Computer) are also excellent albums for tripping. I love Radiohead -- a buncha acidheads.

"The Wall" DVD is good to watch on shrooms too. It has all of the tracks from the CD plus extras. And it explains the background story of the whole album -- IMHO giving a lot more meaning to the album.

"Yellow Submarine" DVD is even better. The Beatles are gods of their minds. Their music reflects it.

I'll stop now.

Peace and love,
Tim.

I gotta agree with radiohead, if maybe a little sad to trip too. I downloaded some Shpongle the other day, and I just couldn't get into it...Maybe you could reccomend a song or album by them everybody around the boards seems to love em and I feel like I might have been missing out.

simplemachine, I also wasn't into shpongle in the beginning. But after listening to some songs multiple times it really got better. And I like them a lot now.
Some songs I particularly like are:
Divine Moments of Truth      (DMT )
Around the World in a Tea Daze
Once Upon a Sea of Blissful Awareness

you downloaded shpongle and can't get into it... thats because a lot of the beauty of shpongle lies in the realms that mp3 encoding loses.

Some songs, like Divine Moments of Truth, Around the World in a Tea Daze, etc. are great to listen to, even mp3 quality.  But others really depend on the subtleties that are lost in the encoding process.

My advice to you is to follow this link and buy Tales of the Inexpressible.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det...ic&n=507846

best 20 bucks you'll spend in a while.

The Dead (Grateful or not) are always an excellent choice when tripping. Same with Phish, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, or any and all classcial music. Pink Floyd is a good choice, but I'd choose any of the above before Pink Floyd.

"What do you mean exactly?"

He means that when you encode an mp3 from cd-quality audio, it loses data - mp3s are a compressed format, which is why they're so small. the small file size doea mean though that data is lost - Shpongle, being the most intricate music ever recorded, loses a LOT. I didn't believe it at first, in fact when I first got Shpongle it was mp3s.. after a while I purchased it because I felt I had to give these guys some cash, and BOY WAS I SURPRISED - its like a whole new cd - TINY really high-pitched and HUGE really low-pitched sounds jumped out as if I had been listening to the MP3s from across a football field

--------------------
Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
In addition: SHPONGLE
