Of course, the best is to use a GE hole with a filter material. Even if you don't need it. Anyone can get a drill bit and a bunch of polyfill, it is stuff that anyone can get around the house anyway.

I disagree that it's "best."  I would much prefer my container lids permanently be in their original state than be permanently modified and compromised, not to mention weird-looking.

I also disagree that anyone can do those things as easily as you.  Sure most people in North America can easily find a power drill, and likely many people outside America. But not everyone, not even most everyone. Of course there's always a way to make a hole if one has to. But what I'm really getting at is that it seems that the Shroomery community is largely unaware of how specific its methodology is to particular parts of the First World, namely North America, Europe, Australia, Japan, maybe Central America and some others.

To people in those kinds of areas/situations, switching to unmodified lids may only represent 'laziness', frugality, discretion, etc.  But to people in the world at large, these kinds of changes amount to major increases in accessibility and ease-of-understanding, not to mention a significant improvement in reliability and effectiveness of techniques themselves.
For that kind of reason I think it's very important that we trim the fat and always make sure there are active reasons for the things we do.

Since it's really not necessary almost ever, why do it?  It's seemed to me for years now as if thousands and thousands of people have modified lids because earlier cultivators, their informal educators, used canning lids and adapted them.  We passed on our train of thought to lids that just don't need it.  There are a lot of things in [hobby] mycology where this happens, and most people are simply not aware, as fish may not be aware of the water.

because if you dont grow lil tiny noob cups of bull you get stalled grain jars due to CO2 build up with no GE.  :smirk:

Ive helped many "mudhut" growers grow fine using what materials they had available and GE holes are easily done no matter the economic situation of the cultivator.  its about not being lazy and doing things the proper way so you dont run into trial and error situations.  :wow:

while some can get away with just lids and no GE like pastey cus he can do anything, others like myself cant do something like this due to poor environmental factors of air quality.  I cant even get away with inferior filters other than SFDs..  if its not .5m or smaller I can use it. :blazed:

if air passes threw the threads of the lids Im growing nothing but mold.

I like pasteys lid tek solely based on that it can be done by some so now others know.  :themoreyouknow:

unlike V there always trying to push shit by saying its the best, perfect or most powerful, like shes selling cars

I just like having my containers being whole and unmaimed.  Muda and Pasty prefer them that way too and it looks like it's rubbing off onto jars as well.  Muda even told me once he came to agree that modifying his containers was a mistake, ruined them, or something like that, which really is all I'm saying too.  I use my containers for way too much stuff to mess them up with holes, and I love the discretion and consistency.  More people will probably feel the same as the possibility becomes more widely known (already happening) which is why I talk about it. nbd

And also I've gotten messages from people internationally telling me that semblances of my methods allowed them to finally grow without materials hassles. So there's an important place for these changes, regardless of if "mud hut" people can in some fashion figure out how to do it the more complex way.

I've been doing this with containers much shittier than the ziploc ones fill 3/4 full of grains for some time and had no issues that weren't related to the inoculant.  Grains get wedges up in the top of the lid and still don't contaminate.

I wouldn't care if they needed modification and I can't see how it would "ruin them," but it's extra work and extra filter material for no reason.

--------------------

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.
Triggered yet?

Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."

Wow dude, that was over-the-top ridiculous.  I'm just talking about lids here.  I see no reason that your clear and hateful break of rule 5 is called for.  Moderators and TCs should behave better than that.  I suspect you're once again trying to get me to say something down on your level so you can use it as an excuse to ban me for a rule that you're actually breaking first, abusing your moderator powers and inducing a double standard. Hopefully another moderator will come in and do the right thing, and treat you for your actions the way you would treat others for the same or less.

It does happen, however, that mentioning that other respected growers share and express the same preferences as I do shows that your slandering and trolling me are biased and come from a place of hatefulness. You think that, because I speak differently than other people, me doing the same thing as them, stating my preferences and the reason for them, is fundamentally different than what they do by sharing theirs.  You'll do anything you can to make anything I say fit the bill of the way you want other people to see me.  And apparently you'll stoop to a low, low, low level to try it.

Sorry for what's happening in your thread Pasty.  You know I don't want this sort of nonsense.

You don't have to call names to break the rule. You are fully aware of that.  The rule isn't specific only to name-calling. You broke it, no dodging that.

I am an "other" from you.  Basic use of reference in English. Thanks for openly admitting your bias and hatefulness though, that actually helps a lot.

I remember that thread, was a good one. Certainly that could be a conern here, tho I have not had issues with them thus far. That is definitely one to keep in mind as a potential vector.

So Pasty. If you loose the lid before Sterilization, the lids won't deform? I mean this is kinda useful whether you decide to use a GE hole or not hole at all.
