Pastywhyte's Easy Lid Tek 19

This is how I am going to start doing my lids. This is maybe a touch experimental at the moment but it will be fleshed out a little more soon.
Step 1. Buy some plastic lids.

Step 2. Take em out of the box and screw em on the jars.

Step 3. Loosen 1/4" to a 3/4" turn from finger tight. This keeps the pressure from messing up the lid. You will keep the lid loose like this after inoculation as well. This will allow for plenty of GE for colonization.
I will add a few more pics soon but really this shit is no brainer. I been doing my muda pp5 bottles like this for over a year now with no issues.
So the unmodified lids colonized just fine. No different than the ziploc screw tops. One must remember to tighten before shaking of course and you want to avoid picking them up a lot but they worked excellent. Gonna try with some other species soon. Anyway here is my first tub done with these. It's on its second flush right now.

I want to say that for the most part, this method is really just a stopgap. Like you just picked up a dozen jars and lids but now got no SFD kicking around and don't feel like charging the drill battery. So ya get busy any way and make em proper when your order of SFD's arrive. I am by no means endorsing this over proper filtered lids.
Edit: I love the no mod lids. Too easy. Never worry about a filter fail.

My brother. Jesus man. Yo groo I wanna build an AI that does such and such and such. You mean you want to build a $500k robot that basically jerks you off. Groo it could also tutor and such and.. Moss, stfu.
I told him, Moss, Cuz I call him moss, anyway, moss, inventions are about solving complicated problems in the most simple no shit DUH way that EVERYONE swears that cud have thought of on their own. When in fact, It takes dedication and constantly thinking about how what and why all the time!
My first 200-400 posts I searched every single question i have 3 or 4 ways befpre I posted anything generally.
Only when research proved futile is when I shat my ideas into the forums.
I also like to specifically specify to my readers that when doing pf tek, it is nice to use literally the bare minimum aluminm for PC cycle.

The reason for this is, it is so easy to take off less aluminum than more especially when you are messing around in a SAB.

Yep! It'll work with any threaded one-piece lid! Pretty much anything except the disc and ring 2-piece lids that come with the jars. Though I'm not really sure if I would necessarily trust basic metal sauce lids for sauce jars, which barely have any height to the sides of the lid and thus don't really have any thread in the normal sense. They'd probably be fine if treated well, though, especially if pulled from the cooker into sterile airflow.
Yeah we've talked about it somewhere in the mix. Also I mentioned it in the invitro pods tek for people that want to use glass jars with it.
I think this is the way to go. Eliminates another item ordered online, another store purchase (silicone), and another modification.
Super glad to see great growers fully endorsing the thread-only lid!

Well once you have inoculated them you totally seal them up so there's no need for anything like that.

My containers colonize extremely quickly. I have figured that certain kinds of inoculations could result in a slower finish in containers loaded down with more grains though. If it's a concern, one can always slightly/temporarily crack the lid to allow some exchange without compromising cleanliness. Doesn't take much, or for long at all.

When shaking the jars, once they reach 30%, would it be necessary to tighten them in a SAB first or would open-air be fine?
Super easy tek Pasty, thanks! I'm tired of drilling holes in all my jar lids. This saves soo much time and stress

I was considering doing this, but I was to cheap to buy the lids
I might buy like 200 metal onepiece lids for this application, but I'm too cheap.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I wouldn't even loosen them until after you shake. Won't need much air until then anyway.

So a SAB isn't necessary? Contams won't go flying into my jars if I twist it shut in open air?
