Has anyone else had trouble getting Puerto Ricans to pin?
    #22661368 - 12/16/15 01:25 AM (5 years, 10 months ago)

I've had my BRF cakes sitting at 90% humidity for about a week and a half now with no signs of pinning. Usually I see pins withing 3-5 days of birthing following the PF TEK.

I did some searching and found that PRs are particularly difficult pinners.

Has anyone had any sucess with PRs? Any advice to increase my pinning chances?

I grow redboys which are only part PR, but I find them to typically be quite prolific pinners, and for the most part cube strains tend not to matter that much.

The combination of random genetics, and that cakes quite frankly are sometimes reluctant to pin, is most likely the combination of factors leading to this.  Examine and post carefully what your fruiting conditions are.  Chances are you aren't misting them directly enough to compensate for the massive FAE of an SGFC.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.
Triggered yet?

I'm starting to get this extreme white fuzz all over my cakes.

It doesn't seem like cobweb, i don't think, because I've seen cobweb before and it was a different texture and a grayer color.

This white fuzz is all over them and stretches about 2-3 centimeters from the cakes. Could it be a contam? I actually broke my phone so I can't take pictures but I will when I get a chance.

Pics of your setup and cakes are really the only way you can get real advice other than "be patient"

you know puerto ricans are one of the best pinning varieties as far as cubes. but ive had some real trouble with them fruiting in the past. and i think it may have something to do with temps. what temps are you fruiting at? think about location, the puerto ricans are a very tropical warm weather location. if your fruiting at lower temps. that could possibly be the problem.

but i had one hell of a time getting them to fruit properly. they did not behave like other cubensis for me. they were much more difficult and finicky. so don't feel bad if the ricans are giving you trouble. but keep trying.

heree was one of my old old puerto rican grows. but i will say, these were even more difficult than ape for me. i had an easier time growing pans than puerto rican cubensis. this grow was probably attempt number 10. and the rest failed. i even remember this entire casing aborting out.

I live in Florida and I just have my FC at room temperature, which is a constant 78.

That's a sexy grow I wish mine were looking like that

oh that extreme white fuzz you speak about. i think thats normal with puerto rican. see the casing i posted? very aggressive mycelia. it almost jumps up in the air above the casing material.

this thread has some detail about what you describe.

Blindingleaf had some weird shit when he tried to do PR too. They seem oddly stabilized.

I wonder if that's why next to nobody seems to grow them at all, let alone as a main variety.  RR must have had some respect for them, or it's unlikely he would have used the genetics in redboy.  Redboy tends to be a prolific an easy pinner IME.  Does like to munch casings before fruiting though, and is rather fluffy on average.

Dude pasty, did you avatar always have two left hands, or is that new.

It wasn't cobweb lol

I thought it was cobweb and I just kinda gave up on them. I left them in the fruiting chamber and forgot about them.

I came in today to clean everything up and there were tiny shriveled up fruits everywhere and spores all over the perlite.
