anyone know where to find out how past presidents have done in polls around jan/feb of their election year? just curious whether its normal to be 50/50 around this time.

i looked around but i couldn't find anything about the polling method. that would be extremely important information in interpreting these numbers you know...

did they randomly call people at home?
if they did, were the telephone numbers sampled from the entire US population (or perhaps just newsweek subscribers???)
or was there just a number provided to call in and cast your opinion?

I don't remember the exact figures, but when King George I was running against Michael Ducockless at this same time in the election cycle, the future King George was running in the teens BEHIND Ducockless. He later became president by taking something like 40 of the 50 states.
