Different arrangements for the perlite (humidification)
    #2271239 - 01/25/04 10:26 AM (20 years, 2 months ago)

I had a sort of idea: why putting a whole layer of perlite + water
at the bottom of the terrarium (during the fruitification), that
creates a lot of mess, instead of putting it in a sort of pot, at one
side of the terrarium? I know this kind of setting might take away
some space to the cakes / substrate, but it would be much easier to
clean and to manage the humidity situation (adding water or perlite).

Do you think there will be a lot of differences for the cakes having
or not the layer of perlite  UNDER them?

i had this same idea, the question that stopped me from doing it is, will a small container of perilite be suffecient to supply the whole chamber with the correct amt of humidity. and i would imagine you would need a fan. but i do agree having it in a disposable container would definitly make cleanup easier.

id love to see you test this out and post your results.

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

I guess that tonight I'll be trying to put some perlite + water in a
conteiner and place it in the terrarium... after a couple of hours
I'll see how's it going with the humidity %.

Amy for sure this method is valuable only for terrarium not too big
 In my case I got maximum 4/5 jars running so I think that a
20 cm x 5 cm x 5 cm should easily work.

I'll inform as soon as possible about the sitation

Ehy Amy it seems like the perlite + water I've been putting in my
terrarium is not enough (only 86 / 87 % humidity).

I'll try something bigger. I think that a little loss of space is
more manageble that a pure mess in the terrarium
Maybe I'll put the perl + wat in a taller and longer box container,
thiner on each side.
