are you fascinated by things like physical deformity, disease, etc? * 1

ever since I was a kid, I have been obsessed with physical deformities. I love looking at pictures of people who have giant tumors on their faces, crazy genetic deformations, and so forth.

i remember when I was like 12, I was at an airport and there was some old man in the terminal who had what looked like "neuorofibromatosis" on his face (and probably the rest of his body).

i was just so intrigued by it all that i kept going up to him and looking at his face. it grossed me out so much but that's what i enjoyed.

i am wondering if there's anybody else out there that is able to appreciate this aspect of life as much as me.  is anyone else completely fascinated by this sort of stuff?

I wouldn't say obsessed.  Perhaps more curious than average, but I think obsessing over the misfortune of others is a pretty sad pastime.

How about you go to college, study that field of medecine and contribute something to society with your interest and newfound knowledge?

the misfortune has nothing to do with it really

i am just naturally fascinated by deformity. i have the same level of "appreciation" of a crazy genetic deformation as people do for fine art or wine.

I knew this was you as soon as I read the thread title

But I wouldn't say I appreciate it and definitely wouldn't say I love it, but I can say it makes me appreciate what I was born with more because none of us have a choice about who we are including them, it reminds me of that saying "it could always be worse" because if I see someone who was unfortunate enough to be born with a noticeable deformity or disease, it makes me realize all of the petty shit I don't like about myself isn't that big of a deal and I should be grateful for what I have.....as hippyish as that might sound

I'm pretty sure the suffering of others does excite you on some level, not that that is really abnormal, but you seem to relish in it more than most.

its almost poetic

like i feel so grossed out when i look at physical deformity/genetic disease/etc, but then i realize it's just an extension of my own self. what i see outside of me is what i am inside. and then the repulsion and disgust turns into love and appreciation. its cathartic

hard for me to describe this really. but maybe someone else understands, who knows.
