I use a cow and feed it with wheat straw and can tell you it's better than horse ,but people get also good results from horse.(I think cow is more potent!)

one of the makor differences is the consistancy....horses drop biscuts and cows drop pies....

exp: herses have more testure and substance to the poo, it's also dryer that that of a cow...cows have some runny assed splattery stuff the like to call poo. when viewing them side by side you notice the texture really quickle...much of the grass/hay/straw/grain that they are fed is not completely digested...

Equine are not ruminant animals like cows, ruminants have multiple stomaches and frequently cough up a 'cud' to chew again, this gives them the ability to process feed more efficiently, in doing that they have runny poop.

I think there is also a difference in colonization time.
Cow is a lot dencer so it takes longer.

I know someone who told me they tried Emu dung before and that it worked on half of the casings really good and the other have got a redish pink mold all through them.I dont know though thats just what he said, but he is a trustworthy guy in my opinion.

Generally, cow poo is too dense for mycelium to efficiently colonize so straw helps to loosen it up a bit and also helps out with water content.
