Reduce reuse recycle

So I'm getting bored waiting on cakes jars and lc colonizing. Hopefully I can fruit sometime soon. Anyway I have decided to try a little experiment which may or may not have been tried before. I have 2 "empty" multi sore syringes that I have haphazardly loaded up with distilled water and a small bit of Karo. I used just a little more water than needed to fill a 10 ml syringe and put in a plastic contained and tossed it in the microwave for a short burst until it boiled. Was such a small amount it shouldn't take much to sterilize. Cooled of pretty fast also. If it fails it fails I lost nothing but 10 minutes of my time.

There are still spores in the empty syringe. There is no way that they are all going to come out with the liquid when I used it to nocc my jars. These syringes were loaded with clumps of spores. I'm gonna see if I can get an lc going inside the syringe albeit there is no gas exchange. I figure it couldn't hurt to try. I'm not expecting anything but who knows.

I see what he did, tried to recover the spores on the spent syringe inner surfaces by making a LC out of them.
you could have also used a 0.22 syringe filter to suck water/solution inside

I didn't microwave the spores. I put distilled water in a Rubbermaid container with a very small amount of Karo. I microwaved container to boil water. Let water cool then flamed the needle of a used syringe and pulled liquid from Rubbermaid container into syringe which was empty. Now that the syringe is full of liquid there are visible spores floating around that were still in the syringe after using to inoculate jars that I have colonizing.

Ohhhh, okay. Yeah, you're going to run into trouble there. There are spores on the inside of your syringe, but there are also bacteria. On cakes and grain they're at a disadvantage, but in an LC they're going to take off. Expect it to cloud pretty soon.

Yeah but like I said if it doesn't work so be it. The syringes would have just been sterilized eventually so I figured what the hell I'll give it a try. I always expect failure so there is no disappointment.

Just keep an eye out for cloudiness. Even if this fails (almost definitely) it should still give you a good idea of how nasty spore syringes are, which is helpful for any new grower.

Well hopefully I get some fruits soon and can do some tissue cultures or something. I'd like to keep a constant supply and not have to keep buying syringes. I'm not sure if I have the patience for this hobby but I'm addicted to it already and haven't even got to fruit anything yet. I'm sure once I have some goods I won't go crazy waiting for colonization.

they work by filtering the liquids going thru them, and since bacteria are larger than 0.22 micrometers, you're effectively filtering them out. on the other hand though, don't expect to have spores pass. I was just suggesting it to get water inside the syringe, after that you'd have to remove the filter to get spores out

I get it. If my experiment work I wil be getting filters and doing this with all of my syringes. I need to invest in some small stuff like that anyway.

I'm not telling you not to go your own way, but you should also consider agar. It's easy, cheap, proven to work and very versatile.

Ive been looking around now that I ordered my PC and I'm going with pasty's tek with the minirounds since it looks super simple even an idiot could do it and not fail horribly.
