Thats how they grow in the wild!

Be SURE to bake the manure long enough so that everything is dead.

I was under the impression that some microbes are beneficial to myceliem growth and discouraging molds from growing. Is it true that compost bought commercially should be ridden of these through TOTAL steralization??

i dont know the answer to this question about store bought compost but i do think rubicante has no idea what he/she is talking about so rubicante please don't spread incorrect information because some of us are actually interested in cultivating mushrooms and not just pretending like we do on the internet. wildman just do a experiment see if it works no harm if you have a few jars of extra rye. i am working on creating a compost from instructions given in the mushroom cultivator.

I am definitely looking forward to a time that I can move out into the country and make my own compost. Right now it isn't an option. I believe I will do some experimentation with store bought compost to see if it colonizes. Thanks to all who relpied.
Peace,
Wildman
