Fact or Fiction...

Fact or Fiction...
It's All In the Mystery...

I heard the Real McCoy Firewalker
can lead others over the coals simply by holding their hand...

Instances like these give credence to what the skeptics call...

The Supernatural.

My physics teacher said that almost all of the time, those hot coals, really are not hot coals. They are pieces of wood, and since wood is not that conducive to thermal energy, it is easy to run over them and not be burned.

Another form of firewalking is done over a type of rock (volcanic, I think it was). It's not hard to show that the rock acts as an insulator, so while the bottom of the rocks can be red hot (after several hours in the fire) the top is significantly cooler - hot enough to cause pain but not hot enough to actually burn.

Yeah; Verifiable info on temperature of the coal-bed would allay mistrust...but who can we trust?...

What makes a trust trustworthy?
How does an endowment differ?

Walking over coals isn't anything special, or supernatural. It's quite easy. Anyone can do it, just walk quickly over the coals and they won't have time to burn your feet.

It's a pretty nifty trick, but there's absolutely nothing magic about this whatsoever.

Correction:

I dont think there is anything magical. But to the ignorant it is magic. Just like the child who's mind cannot comprehend a coin trick, walking on coals is magical to some.

Just like the person who takes ayahuasca, cannot comprehend what is happening and thinks it is magical, magic and the "supernatural" (there is nothing supernatural, although plenty of stuff that is unknown to science) stop being such when properly explained.

Is there anything that can never be explained?

better question: is there anything that can ever be explained?

From what I've heard, walking on hot coals is a lot like walking on hot pavement.
