Colonized Lava Rocks
    #2267898 - 01/24/04 09:45 AM (20 years, 2 months ago)

My fruiting chamber is the PMP setup using lava rocks. After fruiting 2 flushes in  it i noticed that the mycelium is colonizing the lava rocks and fruiting from it. I thought that it might just be the mycelium stretching from the cake and still using the cakes nutrition so i took the cakes out for the night. I woke up this morning to find that the mycelium colonized further onto the rocks and new pins have formed off of them.

Anyone know whats up with this?  Could these lava rocks have nutrition in them enough to support growth?

:wtf:

yep its common,id say because the rocks are wet they can support fungi myc but i doubt if they would fruit.then again we've seen shrooms growing in mid air/upside down so who really knows?

He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Alright so its most likely just colonizing the rocks because they are damp?

I was a little concerned as i thought if they had enough nutrition to support mycelium growth it could grow mold as well.

I guess only time will tell..

Ill keep you posted on how the pins off the rocks go. If they actually turn into full sized mushrooms ill get some pics of it.

Who knows maybe the future of cultivation is colonizing rocks. =P

yep that is my guess...

so far the pins haven't gotten any larger.. i suspect they were probably just colonizing for moisture and getting nutrients from the cake it was attached to.
