Sierrias. End up in the garden of the gods. Research, heard good things and fly back. Trailangels. At the end. Asheville even. Anyone up for it. The only person can not but it is easier with two and an adventure. start of April, march is bad.

That sounds like a fucking blast man. I used to dream of that trail. If you get the balls and go all the way to Alaska let me know I'll have some caribou soup and a bed waitin for ya when ya get here

Still, can do it. And to the other poster go to Denali where everything is regulated, every parcel, rangers are great.
Take the bus.

Planning on late March, early April if I do it. It can't be like wild where people skip the Sierra Nevadas. Biggest storm in ten years when the book was written.
I will check on it. The website is the oracle. But it cannot tell everything.

The Sierras are still going to be covered with snow in April.

Yes. But as far as I know it is doable. Before I put in for permits will see when the time nears.
Shit, like hostels you always meet people along the way and hopefully some trail angels for the beginners of a long term hike.
What I hope for anyway but only experience will matter.

This thread confused the shit out of me. I gathered you're following the path of Christopher (Alexander Supertramp) Mccandless, who inspired Into the Wild?
If so, right on man! That's definitely a remarkable journey to take and something I wish I could do. Try to take pics when you can.
What stuff are you planning on bringing along, and how much money?
Also, where'd you apply for those permits, and what did you mark as your purpose? I've always wondered how that's done

I just want to reiterate that with the way this winter is going (better than in recent years), the snow may present an obstacle that early in the spring. I do wish you all the best of luck though, sounds like a great life-changing adventure. I am considering doing the John Muir trail this summer.

Good luck. As it is impossible to get a permit unless you want rangers waking you up everynight. Would not recommend to bring pot on federal land regardless.
Yet, fuck it.

Yea I've already dealt with federal probation because of that, it is definitely lame but it's not something I worry about.
I don't know much about the permits, my good friend went last year and he was convincing me to go this year.

Just google pct and learn. They have a link to the Muir trail and permit.

Yea I can see that...
I think OP was referring to the book/movie Wild, not Into the Wild.

I see, I should probably educate myself on the book then. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I still love this idea and have always wanted to journey through the Pacific Coast from San Diego, hopefully some day soon.
Best of luck on your travels, guys
