Wanted to share my micro closet garden. No daylight right now so had to vacate my windowsills. Havnt got to spend as much time as I'd like to workin on it but thought I'd share Gonna start a meat rabbit herd as well
Sick of hearing people complain about big agroculture and not do anything about it. This project took very little effort and cost me very little. I get to enjoy organic pea shoots, wheat grass sprouts and onion leaks fresh everyday. That's incentive enough for me
as my projects grow I'll bring em here

Nice project and I hope you'll have some fun doing it!
I'm not really sure if you're going to solve the issues with 'big agriculture' this way though. Looks like tight quarters for them rabbits, which implies you're running into the same problem with living space, stress and potential infections as large-scale meat farmers would do. Your grow light may get you through the dark winter days, but it's a horribly energy-intensive way of farming. And I'm not going to ask where the other acre of potted plants is that is going to keep you fed
But like I said, it can be totally worth it in terms of satisfaction.

Thanks guys. That's not a permanent home for those rabbits btw, they have an outdoor coupe. I bring them in at night I plan to use this thread as a log of my gardening, as it progresses. I will have much to share in the coming year. I am in interior Alaska, so nothing outside for a while yet I welcome anyone to use it in the same manner, organic gardening tips are welcome.

I tried raising rabbits a few years ago for meat. In the end they all died of old age because I couldn't bring myself to kill them when they were so friendly. It would be like killing my cat and eating it. I do raise a dozen chickens for meat every spring and my old egg hens end up in the stock pot once they stop producing. They're not as adorable as the bunnies though. In the future I plan on raising a meat hog or two every year. Would love to raise some beef but I don't have the space (or desire) to grow hay. I get a side of beef from the farmer a few miles away when my freezer gets low.

Right on. Yer a little sweetheart. I love rabbit meat too much to let it go waste. We're startin our goat herd here soon, gettin our chicken and quail, turkey and duck flock goin again too Id like to raise up two family lines of hogs and get a good crowd but I think they'd be too tempting for the critters up here, and I don't have a good spot for them yet. Probably have to wait on them Pigs and Oxen, donkeys and such in time. Still prefer wild meat though. I missed the hunting season this year, man am I fucking paying for that. Almost forgot it's $10/lb ground beef

Oh, bro, permaculture man! U got all winter to study up! It's great man! Geofflawton.com and permies.com are excellent resources... So many really good ideas floating around in this area... Rocket mass heaters, roataional grazing, guilding plants, of course swales and hugleculture.

Nice man So about that last plant...how are you doing the lighting for it? Do you have any bulbs or are you just setting it by the window?

No it's not in a window, there is still almost no sunlight yet. You can call it cannabis, it's legal here.
I started that one on a tube flourescent, then experimented with mix and matching the tube lights, CFL, and LED for a while.
Now she's got a 250w HPS overhead with LED side lighting, I'm going to throw in a second HPS tomorrow
All the other plants are making their way back to the windows

How to grow spinach like Popeye:
-select a hybrid, chimera variety

Select a good carcinogenic plant food and insert directly in soil, at roots of spinach seedling

I started gardening 3 years ago for this exact reason! I believe humans should know how to grow their own food, and that we are losing our connection to the land. I wanted to do it organically, without help from big-ag, without using chemicals linked to cancer and defects. It was one of the most eye-opening things in my life so far. I'm still learning so much! I saw my back yard regenerate, attract birds, butterflies, bees, dragonflies... I saw a new ecosystem start to bloom. Plus home grown food tastes so much better. I was surprised to see how much I grew on 64 sq/ft and I was almost always giving free food away. Truly this is the best way to feed, learn, heal, and regenerate the body, mind, and land!

Not at the moment. I'm at a weird spot in my life, jumping around a bit. I do have an organic rosemary plant that's doing beautifully....I just need to transplant her, she's way past due to getting out of her tiny pot.
If mushrooms count as garden plans then yes

I used mossy cottonwood logs as borders in a garden. When we double checked our oysters, any that didn't make the cut we're placed gill-side down on the logs to spore print and allowed to be destroyed by ants. That was about this time of year. By September there we're oysters comin up all around the gardenQuote:

YES! At least here anyway.
A farmer down the road from me has loads of goats. No fencing or anything. Free to roam anywhere. They seem to always stay in the yard which is contrary to what I hear about goats.
How are you doing so far this year?

Your list has grown a lot since you made this post! I finally got back on here yesterday after quite a few years, and I wanted to see what kind of green things people were up to. That's good stuff, man!
I'm getting my grow on hardcore this year as well. May your season be productive and fruitious!
